The pies turned out by Don DeMarco at his Midwood pizzeria Di Fara are almost as famous as the lines to eat them, and with chilly temperatures coming those outdoor waits are about to be even more interminable. In anticipation, the DeMarco family has opened a dessert shop and cafe, Di Fara Dolce Fatts, just down the block at 1012 East 15th Street, which the NY Times reports will also "provide a waiting area for the pizzeria." Our numb noses and frozen fingers thank you.

The new cafe will make their custom-filled cannoli in-house but will import other baked goods from nearby Italian bakeries in the borough. The new bakery shares an address with MD Kitchen, a spinoff Italian specialties restaurant the family opened a few years ago that sells things like veal and eggplant parm sandwiches to supplement the pizza business. Calls to both the original pizzeria and the MD Kitchen went unanswered, so it's unclear how the kitchen and cafe will coexist, if at all.

The pizzeria opened in 1965 but DeMarco had been making pizza in Brooklyn since 1959. Even as the restaurant celebrates 50 years, it's still making best of lists every year. Now we'll just have to judge that cannoli.
