There's no doubt costumes are already in the works for this year's Comic Con, which'll be taking over the Javitz Center October 8th through 11th, and the folks at ReedPOP and Brooklyn Brewery have been preparing as well, brewing their annual Brooklyn Defender beer. It's New York Comic Con's 10th edition and the fourth installment of the special brew, which gets a new superhero emblazoned on its label each time. This year's edition was designed by Khary Randolph, whose work can be found in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Justice League Beyond and other contemporary animation and comic books.
"The new Brooklyn Defender is the modern Brooklyn hero, saving many from dangerously bland nights," explains Randolph. "He embodies Brooklyn and the Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill neighborhoods—reflecting the sports and hip hop cultures that are prevalent there. The Brooklyn Defender uses his athleticism and artistic prowess to defend beer and all those who stand behind it!"
"This year's Brooklyn Defender is a bright, juicy IPA with a reddish twist from a dash of roasted malt and matched the flavor packed by Randolph’s exquisite design," explains Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster Garrett Oliver. The 6.7% ABV beer will debut at a release party September 9th and will then be available on tap and in bottles at spots including Barcade's four outposts, Pony Bar on the UES and select other venues in the tri-state during Super Week. For the first time ever, the special beer will then be distributed to more than 20 states nationwide.
