Did you know the Horn & Hardart Automat were said to have the best coffee in New York? Since today is National Coffee Day, we thought we would look back at old New York coffee shops and suppliers, as well as New Yorkers imbibing in the bean juice. No Starbucks here, but you will see everything from Caffe Reggio (still on MacDougal Street today) in 1975 to a classic Chock Full O'Nuts storefront in 1935 to what looks like some sort of tough coffee gang in the 1880s.
