Union Square's greasy spoon Chat 'N Chew is gone, but from its ashes rises an Italian comfort food pop-up. Owners have decided to reinvent the restaurant as Little Sal's, reports DNAinfo, opening after a little renovation and (hopefully) a deep clean.

"It's going to be a Chat 'n Chew on steroids," explains Ethan Silverman. "It'll have traditional Italian food like chicken parm, eggplant parm and pastas." Silverman, whose father Andrew owns nearby eateries City Crab and Barbounia, says the concept will rival the red sauce revolution made popular by restaurants like Major Food Group's Parm and Frank Prisnizano's Sauce.

They expect to open in the next few weeks and will stay open through the fall if all goes well. We'll miss that chicken fried steak but at least this is keeping in the spirit of the original, albeit with much more tomato sauce. Anything but a juice bar!
