Calexico's delicious burritos are arriving on the Upper East Side next week as the chainlet debuts a new non-mobile location outside of Brooklyn since closing their LES outpost. On Monday, the restaurant will move into a corner spot on Second Avenue at 79th Street, joining nearby outposts of other NYC-based chains like The Meatball Shop and Xi'an Famous Foods. But instead of Chinese noodles and orbs of meat, they'll be slinging their addictive Cali-Mex mashup menu complete with generous slatherings of Crack Sauce.
The fifth location will offer many of the same menu items that won them accolades when they debuted in 2006. That includes Carne Asada burritos and bowls, Baja Fish tacos and the gut busting Carne Fries. But they're also making some additions in the form of chicken and steak fajitas, accompanied by house-made tortillas, and queso dip with crunchy tostadas for dipping. Mmm...queso... Unfortunately, the queso won't be ready in time for opening but the team expects it will make its debut in the coming weeks.
The restaurant will be a big one at 80 seats in the dining room plus 10 more at the bar.
