This one hits like a punch in the brunch: Cafe Orlin is closing. The St. Marks Place fixture—which was always worth it despite its typically long waits for brunch—will close on October 15th, Jeremiah's Vanishing New York reports. It had been going strong since 1981. It was my second home when I was at NYU. My heart hurts.

All of its egg dishes are perfect. Its pancakes are perfect. Its orange juice and lattes are perfect. I can even tolerate its sidewalk seating.

But while I shake my fist at the sky and the evil landlords who too often rob the city of its valuable institutions, it appears this isn't the case of a rent hike or similarly pernicious real estate deal. Through a spokesperson, the Cafe's owner said "thanks to all those who frequented the cafe over the years...we had a great run of 36 plus years. The spokesperson added the owner is "ready for a change."

The Cafe's owner reportedly owns the building and a new restaurant is planned for the space.
