Pasta and pink stuff, two trends colliding at new Nolita restaurant The Sosta, opening Thursday from By Chloe co-founder Samantha Wasser and Esquared Hospitality. Speaking of trends, the restaurant's of the fast casual ilk, modeled after the gas station "autogrills" found off highways in Italy, which I can confirm from experience are actually amazing. Let's see how they honor the idea here.

Co-Founder and Executive Chef Ali LaRaia—who came up with the autogrill nod—offers five house-made pastas on the opening menu, all served in pink paper bowls on pink plastic trays to match the rest of the pink decor. Even the pasta is pink (well one anyway): Zucca Vodka ($9 for a small, $13 for a large) made with sauced with tomato, caramelized onion, vodka, cream and basil. There are also Spaghetti Pomodoro ($8, $12), Campanelle Pesto ($9, $13) made with pine nuts, and other sauce options.

The focaccia for sandwiches and as a supplement to a big antipasti board is also made by LaRaia. Bread avoiders can order arugula ($6, $8) and verde ($12) salads, or substitute the pasta noodles for ones made from zucchini (an extra $1) or a gluten-free pasta (an extra $2). Though it's billed as a spot for a quick "break" (the meaning of "sosta" in Italian), they offer alcohol like wine on tap, wine and fortified wine-based cocktails, and two tap beers: Narragansett Lager and Nu Skool Citrus IPA.
