The Essex Street Market may have lost a good old boy when Jeffrey's Meat Market moved out but the NYC Economic Development Corporation, which runs the market, isn't letting the loss of Jeffrey hold them down. Instead they are bringing in more diverse food options for the newsy old market. First up? In the footsteps of Hecho en Dumbo moving to the Bowery, Brooklyn Taco is coming to the Market.
Currently only available at the Hester Street fair and the "Artists and Fleas" fair in Williamsburg, the Essex Street Market will be the first brick and mortar home for the well-regarded taco purveyor, one of whose chefs is a Maialino alum. They'll be taking up a portion of the old Jeffrey's space, which the NYCEDC plans flesh out with one or two additional vendors in the coming months.
And what kind of tacos can you expect when they open? If they stick with their delicious market menu than you can look forward to everything from Mayan Mahi-Mahi to Chilorio Brisket to Portabellas with Mexican Poblano Pesto. They've also got salads, tamales and Mexican soups.
