"I'm just so sick of all these rooftop bars with glorious skyline views"—said nobody ever. The latest addition to the great rooftop bar glut is Sonny's Soda Shoppe, an aerie perched atop the Mondrian SoHo hotel on Crosby Street, offering sweeping 360 degree views of neighboring rooftops, skyscrapers and even a glimpse of some water.

Modeled after Italy's Forte dei Marmi beach resort, the space is decked out in cheery pink and white stripes, evoking resort-style beach umbrellas, plus some faux grass flooring. Inside, the striped theme continues with an additional bar, a few couches for perching and plenty of room to mingle on the relaxed wood floor, which gets a little swing when the DJs start up.

The eats are a bit different than standard ocean fare, including five types of pizza, topped simply with mozzarella, tomato and basil or decked out with robiolla, fontina, mozzarella, hot peppers and oven-dried tomatoes. For sweets, there's gelato of course, including classic espresso and pistachio flavors plus a refreshing blood orange.

Can't have a party without a drink in hand; to that end, mixologist Julio Torres has created some appropriately beachy cocktails like the Dolce Verde with white tequila, olive oil, honeydew, arugula, tarragon and lime and the Vagabond, made with rose, Luxardo, mango, rooibos tea, lime and Pellegrino. Alternatively, boozify your gelato with a Blood Orange Float with tequila or keep it simple with a cooling frozen Limoncello.
