The Friday gods have seen fit to bestow us with some divine fried chicken news: Outstanding fried chicken spot Bobwhite Lunch & Supper Counter is expanding from its original Avenue C digs to the West Village, opening the second location sometime this winter.
The team went before Community Board 2's SLA Licensing committee last night to plead their case for a full liquor license at the new location at 53 7th Avenue South (the original just offers wine and beer). Owner Keedick Coulter wants to make "a few drinks that fit the theme" of Southern charm; he tells us the cocktails will be "straightforward" with "no mixology required." Though the CB's role is advisory, the committee voted to deny a full liquor license unless the restaurant agrees to close the outdoor portion of their operations at 11 p.m. and the rest of the operation at midnight.
Undeterred, the team is moving forward and Coulter tells us the menu at the second location will be the same as the first. To that end, expect their outrageously good fried chicken and pork sandwich—made with humanely-raised animals—buttermilk biscuits and pecan pie bread pudding.
