As was foretold, Blue Bottle Coffee is set to expand its presence in New York City, and it appears they'll be landing in Bushwick in a big way. Thor Retail Advisers announced today that the Oakland-based roasters will soon be occupying a massive 15,800-square-foot warehouse at 279 McKibbin Street, using the space as a combination cafe, coffee roasting facility and bakery. Looks like all those years squatting in McKibben Lofts have finally paid off!
This doesn't just mean a quality cuppa in the neighborhood, as Blue Bottle now partners with Tartine, the beloved San Francisco bakery that draws daily sellouts of their breads and other baked goods. This appears to be the first NYC outpost for the bakery, with other satellite operations possibly arriving at Blue Bottle locations in the future. The new bakery will be a scant few blocks from Roberta's, which also has a strong baking game.
"The Bushwick community recognizes and appreciates quality above all else, and we feel this neighborhood is the perfect long-term home for both Blue Bottle Coffee and Tartine Bakery," Executive Vice President of Thor Retail Advisors Matthew Seigel said in a statement. "Blue Bottle will invest heavily to create an environment that serves its increasing production needs, but it will also be a destination we hope the community will embrace offering incredible baked goods alongside the best coffee available." That is, of course, if the locals can deal with the smell. Eh, they'll all be transients soon anyway.
