New York City's outpost of Babu Ji is currently shuttered, but a vet of the restaurant, Charles Mani, has landed a new gig helming the kitchen at Badshah, which opens Thursday in Hell's Kitchen. Restaurateur Abishek Sharma (Surya, Swagat) is behind the new restaurant, which will incorporate Indian flavors into traditional dishes from across Asia, including dishes from various parts of India.

A la carte dishes include a cross-over appetizer of General Tso Cauliflower ($12), hunks of cauliflower in a tomato-chili sauce with sesame and onion seeds, and Gol Goppa ($8), a snack of semolina balls in chutney, a version of which was very popular at Babu Ji. The restaurant will also serve clove-smoked lamb chops and jumbo prawns from the tandoor oven, along with pots of Butter Chicken ($20) in fenugreek gravy and Cheese Kofta ($17) in a cardamom, fennel, cumin and cashew nut curry.

Mani will also offer a chef's tasting menu for $45 per person, which includes appetizers, curries, naan, rice and dessert.
