2004_09_food_oysters.jpgApparently this is the weekend for oysters. There are not one, but two oyster events later this week -- take your pick.

October 1st and October 2nd: Grand Central Oyster Frenzy, Grand Central Oyster Bar in Grand Central Terminal. Enjoy 18 varieties of oysters, watch celebrity chefs prepare their favorite oyster recipes and catch a professional oyster-shucking competition. From 6 to 8 p.m., oysters will be paired with wines and beers. Tickets are $75. Saturday's free cooking demos will include Joe Cerniglia from Gallagher's Steak House at noon, Rick Moonen of RM at 1:20 p.m. and David Pasternack of Esca at 2. For details, call (212) 490-6650.

October 2nd: Manhattan's Annual Oyster Festival, Pearl Street on Hanover Square and Stone Stree. Danny McDonald of Ulysses’ hosts this year’s festival, beginning at noon and lasting throughout the evening. Ulysses’ Oyster Festival is the city’s version of the famous Galway International Oyster Festival in Ireland, where since 1954 people have come to enjoy the unique gastronomic combination of oysters and Guinness. The festival will sell oysters on the half shell and cold pints of Guinness, with live music all day and local restaurants offering their own delicious fare. [ed. note -- we're a little confused as to whether or not this is the same event or a different event than the one we wrote about previously; did that actually take place? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated]
