The Queens Kickshaw is closing. The restaurant, which opened in Astoria in March of 2011, is a fixture in the community but also a destination for mac and cheese, brunch, grilled cheese, hard cider, inventive breakfasts and cocktails, among many other things. Owners Jennifer Lim and Ben Sandler say their final day of operation will be August 27th.

"Now comes the next chapter in which we address growing business challenges, and reinvent ourselves," the owners said in an email to friends of the restaurant. "The Kickshaw spirit will stay in place, though the food and beverage will change." We emailed Lim to ask about the decision to reinvent and for details on the new restaurant, and we'll update when we hear back.

A closing night party has been planned for the evening of the 27th from 6 - 11 p.m. and Lim says everyone is welcome to bid farewell to the Kickshaw in its current form. They're also selling tickets to opening week dinners at the forthcoming revamp, which is expected to open about a month after the Kickshaw closes.
