Vets of three well-respected NYC restaurants have come together to open a new cocktail, oyster and ramen bar in Hamilton Heights. Owner Shigefumi Kabashima, a longtime bartender at Angel's Share (the cocktail bar that has been one of the city's most popular "secret" bars since opening over 20 years ago), Jeff Srole of Maison Premiere and Isao Yoneda of Totto Ramen/Hide-chan Ramen opened ROKC on Broadway between 140th and 141st Streets last week.

The name—Ramen + Oyster + Kitchen + Cocktails—spells out the concept thoroughly. It's an all-in-one tour of a night on out Japan, which might begin with some raw seafood and snacks, then continue to include a few drinks, and conclude with a hearty bowl of ramen.

Srole selects fresh clams and oysters, which are included a special daily $1.50 happy hour Monday - Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 2 - 7 p.m. Next, a quartet of Japanese tapas including a Spicy Shrimp Bun ($4.50) and a crudite platter of crunchy veggies served with a warm fondue for dipping ($10).

Kabashima's crafted some intricate but playful cocktails, like the Flower ($12), a shochu-based offering flavored with elderflower, lavender and cranberry and served inside a lightbulb. As the exclusive bartender for Japanese whiskey Suntory, Kabashima employs the dark stuff in in a Matcha latte ($15) with house-made matcha.

After imbibing your fill, move on to the final stage of the evening: the ramen. Yoneda has three offerings including a Tokyo ramen ($13) with a soy and fish broth topped with pork belly and garlic oil and a Sapporo ramen ($13) based in chicken topped with chicken chashu and two different types of pepper.
