Empire Stores, DUMBO's elegantly distressed old coffee warehouse that will transforming into a glowing retail paradise, has announced the first of its new food tenants. Two restaurants have signed on to operate eateries on the ground floor of the complex in part of a courtyard space.

The darling Vinegar Hill House, tucked away in the nearby Vinegar Hill neighborhood, will open a satellite takeout version of their restaurant sometime in early 2016. They'll be serving breakfast, lunch and early dinner plus coffee and juices.

A pizzeria run by the folks behind SoHo house will also be arriving in 2016, likely in the spring. It's the first New York location of Pizza East, which serves ciabatta-crust pizzas topped with seasonal and local produce. A peek at their Chicago menu reveals wood-fired pizzas, hearty baked dishes like lasagna and pork belly, and Italian antipasti like fritto misto and burrata with pesto.

This far out, there aren't many details about other tenants for the building, though it will reportedly contain office spaces, retail outlets and a "coffee/Brooklyn waterfront museum." Most enticing are rumors of a rooftop beer garden, which would be a clutch addition to DUMBO's miniscule bar scene.
