KASS.jpgTo qualify as a Kick Ass Summer Sipper (K.A.S.S.) you need to meet three criterion. First, you must be refreshing and cold. Crisp is also good. Second, you must have layers and flavor and personality. And finally, you need to be cheap. The last one is perhaps the most important being that the objective of these wines are to be casual, quaffable and enjoyable – particularly out of a plastic cup (good plastic of course).

While it is only the beginning of the summer we have already come across a few K.A.S.S. that are worth talking about…

2004 Michel Lynch Sauvignon Blanc, $9.99
A clean, crisp white wine with lively acidity and layers of lime, minerality and grassy notes.

Collalbrigo Prosecco Brut, $12.00
This Italian sparkler tastes like it should cost much more than it does. The bubbles and bright acidity make this wine the perfect palate refresher.

2005 Domaine De La Pepiere Muscadet, $12.00
This wine has got some bite. The crisp acidity wakes up your tastebuds to prepare them for the notes of green apple, minerality and pepper that follow.

It’s a good thing the summer is just getting started. We have a lot of kick ass wines to get through and we have no intention of rushing through it. These wines are best sipped slowly, in an oversized rocking chair, on a wrap around porch. Or on a roof deck. Either way.

The Collalbrigo Prosecco and the Domaine De La Pepiere Muscadet are available at Bottle Rocket Wine (5 West 19th Street) at the prices mentioned.
