Bohemian Rhapsody is already the highest-grossing music biopic of all time; it won the Golden Globe award for Best Motion Picture, Drama last weekend (despite the fact it was basically a musical); and star Rami Malek won the Golden Globe for Best Actor, Drama as well, and seems like a shoo-in for an Academy Award nomination. Brian May cried because there were no more worlds to conquer... except for one: the rare sing-along theatrical re-release!
Fox and New Regency announced that they will release a special sing-along version of the Queen biopic in 750 locations across the the country and Canada this month, starting on Friday. The new version of the film will show lyrics on the screen for the songs featured in the film including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," "We Are the Champions," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," and "Another One Bites the Dust." It's just like karaoke, but in a movie theater with no booze!
"We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to see this outstanding Golden Globe-winning film featuring Rami Malek's amazing Golden Globe-winning performance in theaters all over the U.S. and Canada in both its original form and in a never-before-experienced 'sing-along' version," Chris Aronson, Fox's president of domestic distribution, said in a mouthful of a statement. Fox previously released sing-along versions of other musical films including The Greatest Showman, although that film was not an award-winning Drama.
The exact theaters where the new sing-along version will be screened aren't listed in any one place, but looking at Fandango, it looks like it'll be at the Times Square Regal E-Walk Stadium 13, Regal Union Square, The Landmark at 57 West, and Regal New Roc Stadium in good old New Rochelle.
