After a touching cold open tribute to the victims of Friday's Newtown massacre, Saturday Night Live continued with a much lighter Christmas-themed episode. Host Martin Short, making his third hosting appearance since he was a member in the '80s, was the sunny center of an enjoyable episode, revising SCTV character Jackie Rogers Jr. for "What Up With That," planting kisses on Lorne Michaels, and pulling out a killer Larry David impression.

There were also a bonanza of surprise guest stars including Kristin Wiig, Alec Baldwin, Jimmy Fallon, Samuel L. Jackson, Tina Fey, Tom Hanks, and Portlandia's Carrie Brownstein. Click through to see sketches including the "What Up With That" Christmas Special (with F-bomb dropping Jackson), Kate Middleton’s OB/GYN learns how to address her Downton Abbey, a new twist on Charlie Brown's Christmas, Weekend Update, and Paul McCartney performing "My Valentine" and the show-closing "Wonderful Christmas Time" with the NYC Children's Chorus.

Unfortunately, several sketches are not online due to song copyright issues, including Short's monologue (in which he sang “It’s the Most Amorous Time of the Year”), the Baldwin-starring Tony Bennett Christmas sketch, and McCartney teaming up with the surviving members of Nirvana for "Cut Me Some Slack." If and when any become available, we'll update.

Update: Oh look, here's a bit of the monologue:
