This week's Comic-Con brought with it a new trailer for The Defenders, Marvel's forthcoming crossover miniseries in which four distinct superheroes—Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones)—band together to save New York, while totally wrecking the city's hallways.
In our first peek at the show back in May, the unlikely quartet were still getting settled, and just beginning to bond over their shared mocking of the Iron Fist, a.k.a. "the kid with the glowing fist." This time around, we see a bit more of the destruction facing New York at the hands of Alexandra, the villain played by reliably-wicked Signourney Weaver. "The thing about war is, it only works if both sides believe they're the good guys," she says chillingly at the beginning of the trailer. "In the end, and this is the end, it's just a city. You'll get used to watching them fall."
There's plenty of leftover questions, but expect Weaver's character to be of the complicated villain persuasion. "She’s part of a long-term plan to get something done, and if you have been watching all of the shows," explained head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb at Comic-Con, "there are little bread crumbs along the way that turn into the cake that is Defenders.”
Watch the trailer below, and lookout for The Defenders to land on your Netflix homepage on August 18th.
