With the sad news that Ravi Shankar passed away at the age of 92 yesterday, we thought we'd celebrate his life by revisiting some of his appearances here in New York. Below, watch Shankar (often with his friend George Harrison) on the Dick Cavett Show, at Woodstock, and performing during the Concert for Bangladesh at Madison Square Garden.

CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH, August 1971:

The concerts (there were two) were organized by Shankar and George Harrison, and were held at 2:30 and 8 p.m. on August 1st, 1971. Shankar and Harrison—along with the likes of Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, and Ringo—played for around 40,000 people at Madison Square Garden, and aimed to raise international awareness and fund relief efforts for refugees from Bangladesh.

WOODSTOCK, August 1969:

At Woodstock, Shankar played from 10 to 10:35 p.m. that Friday night, straight through the rain.

THE DICK CAVETT SHOW, 1971:

Shankar was brought on the show for a musical performance when George Harrison sat as the guest.
