Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, who are America’s William and Kate ("except in this case, both of them are attractive"), have garnered a lot of positive response from the media largely because they are not Alt-Right trolls or alleged Nazis. But last night John Oliver argued that just because they're not the most odious people in the room doesn't mean they're the best people in the room.

Oliver devoted his main segment of the evening to debunking major assumptions about them: that Ivanka is a moderating influence on her father, and that Kushner's background justifies his innumerable responsibilities. "So we should just give [Ivanka] credit when good stuff happens, and blame others when bad stuff happens?" Oliver asked. "That's not a job description of a political adviser. That's a description of an Old Testament God. And that answer there enables you to project whatever you want onto her based on secondhand rumors and assumptions."

"I don't know enough about them to eviscerate them, just as you don't know enough about them to justify putting any real hopes in them," Oliver concluded. "If they are the reason you are sleeping at night, you should probably still be awake." Watch it below, and don't miss out on hearing Kushner's real voice for the first time.
