Bob Dylan is one of the greatest songwriters in history, but he's also a certified weirdo who does bizarre things like guest star on Dharma & Greg, wander around Bruce Springsteen's childhood home in the middle of the night, and force Slash to play acoustic guitar on a song with the hook line, "wiggle wiggle wiggle like a bowl of soup." So it seems entirely within reason that Dylan would shoot the shit with a super computer in a TV advertisement for IBM Watson. This is basically what "Tangled Up In Blue" was about all along.
"IBM Watson analyzes Bob Dylan's lyrics and shows that his major themes are love and time," reads the description of the video. "Maybe we should write a song together," Dylan says at one point, with a grin on his face that can only mean, "I am getting paid handsomely in new cowboy hats & wigs for every word I utter to this goofy-looking contraption." Right before the end, he flashes another enigmatic look that we interpreted as meaning, "Also, I wrote 'Blowin' In The Wind' and 'Visions Of Johanna,' I can do whatever the hell I want, I can write a song about a pair of socks, just try me, motherfuckers."
This commercial joins the Dylan Advertisement Hall Of Fame, along with previous ads for Victoria's Secret, Chrysler, and Chobani.
