Tonight at 7 p.m., the U.S. Pole Dancing Championships are being held at Symphony Space and there are still some tickets left! And there are even more tickets available for the amateur division competition at 1 p.m.! The U.S. Pole Dancing Federation wants you to know that pole dancing is not just about strippers—it's about serious fitness!
The USPDF explains that it "considers pole dancing a sensual athletic dance form that demands coordination, flexibility, fluidity, creativity, individual style, and physical strength. All these elements are equally important in USPDF competitions." If you look at the competition criteria, it's no joke: For the pro-round, there needs to be "20 sec of continuous floor work; 1 spin; full-turn (pirouette); 1 spinning inversion; 1 handstand on pole; 1 split; 30 sec min on spinning pole."
