Sunday was a beautiful day - not a cloud in the sky - the perfect background for the P.S.1 courtyard installation, Canopy, designed by New York's nARCHITECTS.

The diaphanous installation is the winning design in the fifth annual MoMA/P.S.1 Young Architects program that redefines the museum courtyard every summer, on a budget of no more than $60,000. The delicate shadowcasting bamboo lattice is anchored by several lounge nodes: the Pool Pad with a wading pool, the Fog Pad that emits a very fine mist, a Rainforest room that rains, and a Sand Hump that acts as a mini-beach.


Canopy will be open to the public through September 5, serving as the venue for P.S.1's Warm Up music series on Saturdays.

P.S.1 (718-784-2084) is located at 22-25 Jackson Avenue (at 46th Avenue) in Long Island City, Queens. Museum hours are 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. Thursday through Monday.
