[Updates Below] It has been a brutal winter, one which truly pushed Gothamist writers to the brink of insanity (guzzling icy blood from a snowman's skull will do that to you). Thankfully, the thongs are out now, and the temperatures will remain exceedingly pleasant this week, in the mid 50s to low 60s. Another sign of spring this week: the cherry blossoms are coming!
Brooklyn Botanic Garden currently estimates that the first cherry blossoms will bloom sometime this week. If you're like us, then you'll be checking their handy CherryWatch Blossom Status Map to keep apprised of any bloom. Once the blooming has started, the season lasts for about five weeks.
As DNAInfo notes, the entire collection of hundreds of trees should be in full bloom for the annual Sakura Matsuri spring festival held on April 26 and 27—you can see photos from last year's fest here. In the meantime, enjoy our Cherry Blossom mixtape from last year.
