[UPDATE BELOW] Just 281 days left until the next Fashion's Night Out! It would be 283 days, but because of concerns over security downtown on the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, the annual night of shopping "to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, and boost the industry's economy" is getting bumped to September 8th instead of the usual September 10th. Mayoral spokesman Andrew Brent told DNAinfo that the 1st Precinct worried about having enough people to monitor both events. "There were multiple events last year and that was something that was raised by the precinct. It was likely a staffing issue that became moot when they moved it."
Retailers said it would serve SoHo well to have as much police presence as possible that night, since September's festivities got a little wild because multiple stores were giving out free booze. Caroline Ramos of G-Star Raw said, "[This year] it was a stampede of women and they were trick or treating for alcohol." And that wasn't just the Olsen twins! According to a Huffington Post poll, 81% of readers say they want to shop at Fashion's Night Out. Because buying anything at any other time of year just doesn't feel right.
[UPDATE] It looks like the date of Fashion's Night Out wasn't planned around security concerns, but was more of a coincidence. Mayoral spokesman Andrew Brent told us, "There was a rather blatant miscommunication with DNAinfo. The Fashion’s Night Out date was set by Vogue and NYC and Company and had nothing to do with any staffing or security issues raised." But it's still on September 8th, so mark your calendars!
