Last night, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger turned Pier 16 at the South Street Seaport into his own personal "Tommy Pier" for his fall Fashion Week show, complete with amusement park rides, a record shop, temporary tattoos doughnuts, lobster rolls, burgers and more. And today the pier is opening to the public.
In a change from showing spring clothes in the fall, Hilfiger is joining some other designers in a "see now, buy now" approach, showing clothes that are immediately available for purchase. So naturally there are clothes—specifically from his collaboration with model Gigi Hadid—at the pier for visitors to buy. This also meant that models at last night's show were wearing heavy sweaters and coats:
The problem with see now buy now? Models wearing cable knits in 90 degree heat. Youch. #TOMMYNOW #NYFW pic.twitter.com/pjWOuuCKHe

But the festive atmosphere seemed to win over even the most jaded fashion journalists:
Tommy has a tornado too. I like a tornado ride. #NYFW pic.twitter.com/sMnGUjkwHc

The 1st Precinct was cool with it too:
Detective Tommy Moran has his own pier.

FYI, Taylor Swift was there, too, (to cheer on Hadid, because who isn't in her squad), and she's totally cool with singing along to her ex-boyfriend's song with Rihanna (that she helped write):
Tommy Pier is at Pier 16 at South Street Seaport. It opens at noon and ends at 9 p.m.
