The New York Botanical Gardens' annual Orchid Show opens tomorrow, and it might be the perfect thing to stave off the winter blahs. Thousands of brilliant orchids will be on display throughout the conservatories, and the NYBG has many tours and demonstrations planned throughout the show, which ends March 27.

Admissions for adults is $15; photography requires a $35 pass and is only allowed on Tuesdays (we suppose it's to keep the crowds moving, but we're sure cameraphones will be taking stealth pics). A good read to get you in the mood might be The Orchid Thief, which spawned Adaptation, which was more about Hollywood screenwriting and a little less on orchids, but it's a fitting flick for this Oscar weekend. And Gothamist enjoyed visiting the NYBG for the Holiday Train Show.
