Don't be too surprised if your subway car is filled with costume-bedecked straphangers this afternoon: today, the Great Urban Race takes on New York! The citywide scavenger hunt, which was held in major urban areas like Washington, D.C. and Chicago earlier this summer, kicked off from the 79th St Boat Basin this morning, sending small teams of New Yorkers from landmark to landmark snapping photos, solving puzzles, cracking brain teasers and taking on physical and mental feats.

And, of course, the race comes with some sweet cash prizes; first place winners will be awarded $300, second place $200 and third place $100, with all three winning tiers getting free registration to the Great Urban Race Championship in Las Vegas, where teams from all over the country will compete for the top title. Awards will also be doled out for the best dressed racers, and all competitors will be rewarded for their prowess with complimentary beer at the completion of the final clue. Tally Ho!
