We miss you, haunted house. (Photo by Katie Sokoler/Gothamist)

Every year we gaze in wonder at the home on Humboldt Street in Greenpoint that, without fail, gets transformed into a Scooby-Doo-esque house of horrors each October. There are ghosts, goblins, and—rut ro!—witches! But this year the house just looks like all the others, not a spider web or decapitated head in sight. Curious, our photographer Katie Sokoler knocked on the door, and she tells us:

"A shirtless guy covered in tattoos named Tony answered. He said he isn't decorating this year! They've been ripping up the roads in the neighborhood and doing lots of work. The front of his house is a mess so there's really no point. He said he's been doing these crazy decorations for ten years... He has a garage with a loft in the back where everything is stored and will probably decorate again next year."

So the DoT ruined Greenpoint's Halloween spectacle this year, but where else can we see some Clark Griswold-level decorations? If you spot anything, send us a photo!
