It's not every day that you catch a full-sized Airstream trailer on the streets of New York. It's even less often that you catch a full-sized Airstream being lifted inside of a half-finished building on Avenue D. And it's even less often that said Airstream is outfitted as a radio lab/recording studio—and yet, the trailer in these photos is just that.

Our friends over at EV Grieve caught the Airstream installation inside of the not-yet-completed Lower Eastside Girls Club building on Avenue D between 7th and 8th Streets, and provide the following explanation from Girls Club Executive Director Lyn Pentecost: "The radio lab/recording studio in our new building will be housed in a repurposed '58 Airstream—on the second floor. The recording studio will be used to run a local digital radio station, produce youth podcasts and long-form audio pieces, and for classes in DJing and audio mixing."

Pentecost's husband spotted the Airstream for sale at a gas station in the Adirondacks and trucked it down to the city. The organization plans to open the doors to their brand-new space in early 2012, where they'll provide free and creative programs to girls and their families. Ladies, start warming your vocal cords up now!
