Hey all you would-be Broadway composer types: Gothamist has just heard that the New York Musical Theater Festival has just started accepting submissions for this year's festival, with a submission period going from Jan. 10 until March 11. The festival itself will run Sept. 12-Oct. 2 at various venues here in lovely NYC.

Gothamist caught several good productions at last summer's innaugural festival and saw real potential in what these folks are trying to do. They clearly love the genre, and are devoted to cultivating and presenting new works. Boy band spoof Altar Boyz, one of the shows that had a big buzz at last year's event, is soon to make it's off-Broadway premiere, and stands as the festival's first real success story.

So go for it. Check out the submission info and send them your work. What'ya got? If you're in need of inspiration, here are a few musicals we wouldn't mind seeing on or off-Broadway:

Nancy & Sluggo: The Musical
Beverly Hills 90210: The Musical
Stoned Cold: The Rolling Stones Musical
The Passion of Linda Tripp
Ziggy Stardust Live
The Elephant Man Sings

and of course: Staten Island: The Musical
