decasia_boxer.jpgSt. Ann's Warehouse kicks off it's 25th anniversary season tonight with Decasia, a collage of disfigured nitrate celluloid film footage. The use of nitrate celluloid was abandoned mid-century as it was highly flammable and suseptible to rot. The latter characteristic is of great fascination to filmmaker Bill Morrisson.

A Mr. Hyde to Fantasia's Dr. Jekyll, Decasia is an exploration of life, death, cinema, history, permenance and temporality. Footage is projected onto large, scaffolded screens surrounding the audience, juxtaposed with a live score (composed by Bang on a Can's Michael Gordon), performed by 55 members of the Tactus Contemporary Ensemble.

decasia_conductor.jpgDecasia is presented September 9-12. Tickets are $40, $25 for a late show on Saturday.

St. Ann's Warehouse (718-254-8779) is located at 38 Water Street (at Dock Street) in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
