Why does this make us want to do the Evil Laugh? Anyway, the Space Shuttle Enterprise is ours, all ours. Earlier today, NASA officials signed the giant hunk of space machinery over to to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
Our insider source tells us that today, "the official transfer of title of Space Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise from NASA to the Intrepid" was made. "The contract was signed by Lynn Cline, NASA’s Deputy Associate Administrator for Human Exploration and Operations and Susan Marenoff-Zausner, President of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum." No take-backs, you guys!
The Enterprise will be flown from Washington D.C. to JFK International Airport by ferry-flight aboard a 747 NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft next Spring. Then, next summer, it will be transported by barge to the museum, when it officially starts getting settled in to its new home.
