The Harlem Globetrotters—whose roots are actually in 1920s Chicago, did ya know?— are now for sale. According to Reuters, the gimmicky basketball team is being sold by their private equity owner, Shamrock Capital Advisors, who are based in Los Angeles and have held ownership since 2005. "The process is in the second round, two of the sources said, with the team likely fetching between $50 million to $100 million," and they come with some nice sound bites:
However, a spokeswoman would not comment on the team being shopped around at this time.
The team will play Barclays Center in October for their first EVER Brooklyn game.
