While a quick read of this Variety article first had us thinking the Ghostbusters franchise would be going in a totally different direction, hiring Ethan Coen as the new scribe... we quickly re-read to discover it is Etan Cohen who has taken on the task of penning the third installment. You know the one.

More elusive than Slimer himself, actual facts about the movie have been hard to come by, but this one seems legit. The industry mag reports that the Men in Black 3 writer has been tapped to rewrite Ghostbusters 3 for Sony Pictures. Previously The Office's Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky had been hired for the job, but that was back in 2008, and Bill Murray may have actually shredded that script.

If all goes as planned, the third installment will "find original cast members Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray passing the torch to a new generation of ghostbusters"—who may or may not include Seth Rogen. [via Vulture]
