Since there's nothing as credible as trusting a rodent, Punxsutawney Phil told the world that there will be six more weeks of winter. The crowd in Punxsutawney, PA, echoed Gothamist's feelings as they booed the groundhog. But all the blame cannot be placed on poor Punx. Phil: It all depends on whether it's a sunny (shadows = fear = more winter) or cloudy (no clouds = no more winter), so Gothamist will blame Mother Nature.

The cold weather also reminded us of low culture's prediction a Bridget Harrison's Post column would involve be "about how hard it is to be single when it's cold." Only off by two weeks, Harrison (left) did write a column this past week that's heavy on the "it's cold" theme: "If, like me, you are utterly sick of feeling cold and loveless..." and "...went home to my freezing bedroom to contemplate what life would bring me next..." and "I had gotten so depressed by the frigid January weather that I decided I never wanted to talk to anyone again." You and Gothamist both, sister.
