2005_09_artssoloway.jpgMost of the time, Gothamist is happy to watch TV and our Netflix and be ok with not reading stuff. But when we got our mitts on a book written by a TV writer, it seemed like a decent compromise. Six Feet Under writer and producer Jill Soloway's book Tiny Ladies in Shiny Pants is pretty hilarious and she will be doing a couple of book signings and shows this week that Gothamist is very excited about. Catch her tonight at KGB [85 East 4th St.] at 7pm, reading with Jonathan Ames and tomorrow night as part of the Tiny Ladies Extravaganza, a show at Mo Pitkins [34 Ave. A] at 9pm. Other performers include Lauren Ambrose, Molly Shannon, Amy Poehler and Stickerbook Call 212-777-5660 for ticket availability.

2005_09_artssoap.jpgWhen Gothamist was growing up, our mother always threatened to wash our mouth out with soap if we used bad language. But now, we see that we can be rewarded for our potty mouth at the Aristocontest. Do you think your filthy joke concoction rivals Bob Saget's? If so, The PIT [154 W. 29th St.] wants you to come by Saturday at 11pm where they'll be the judge. Sponsored by Dead-Frog.com, the Official Home of the Aristocrats Joke Database, the Aristocontest consists of seasoned comedians telling their version of the joke, followed by the chance for you, the audience to contribute.

Finally, there's another chance to show your support for New Orleans, by attending NY Loves NOLA on Sunday September 18. A $25 donation gets you a Cajun buffet in the restaurant upstairs, while downstairs you can drop in on a seven-hour marathon performance in the Ace of Clubs, with performances from Charles Busch, John Cameron Mitchell, Kevin Aviance, Penny Arcade, Madame, Scott Nevins, Creation Nation, Lisa Jackson, Meat, the Duelling Bankheads, Da Lypstixx, David Gurland, Xavier, Karen Mack, the casts of "Joy," NYMTF's "Rooms" and FringeNYC's "Fleet Week". 5pm till midnight. Acme Bar and Grill/Ace of Clubs [9 Great Jones Street]
