If Justin Timberlake is being credited for bringing sexy back, then the Scissor Sisters can be credited for bringing disco, fun and colorful stage shows back. The (mostly) New Yorkers are back in town tomorrow night, taking the stage at MSG. Babydaddy recently took the time to answer some questions for us (he's the one in the pink pantsuit).
Let's get this out of the way, where did your band name originate?
Friend of Jake's was describing a lesbian friend of his and Jake had said "I didn't know she was a lesbian," and his friend said "Oh yeah ..she's a real Scissor Sister". After that Jake was fascinated with the phrase.
What is your first conscious memory of New York City?
As a young 13 year old visiting relatives - It was my first trip away from home alone.
When you're in town, do you have a favorite place to visit/hang out?
Virgin Megastore. DVD section.
You played the Siren Festival last summer, what was that experience like? Any Coney Island stories for us?
Having the power go out twice during our show made for a memorable Coney Island Story. Ana's is a huge fan of Coney Island , and it was special for her to perform in front of the Cyclone.
Now its time for some fill-in-the-blank action
"You know you've made it when…"
When a pair of Irish female boyfriend decapitating murderers are named after you in the press
"It'll be time to pack up the gear for good when…"
When you you are auditioning a replacement for your dead lead singer
"I'll never forget the first time I…"
heard one of our songs on the radio - it was Comfortably Numb on Pete Tong's show on Radio 1
"I'll never forget the first time ..."
Ana licked the stage as a show of the resilience of New Yorkers after 9/11
Let's have some fun with word association. Give me your immediate feelings on the following (if you've got no discernible feelings, make something up that won't embarrass you in the morning)
Only went once (we played)
never heard of it
A reminder I need to spend more time outside
I'm scared for the future of NYC but god I do love a good cup of Starbucks
A few quickies on the music tip
What was the most played song on your iPod (or an equivalent music playing device) in the past week?
Samwell - "What What (In the Butt)"
Who would be in your ultimate music supergroup, your all-star Olympic team of rock?
If you released a 7" what would you put on the cover?
Actually we have limited edition 10" picture discs for the singles from this album with characters from the cover of Ta - Dah on them - shot by our photographer Kevin Tachman
What was the first/last album you bought on the day it was released?
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
If Josh Schwartz, creator of (the now defunct) The OC had asked your band to perform on his tv show (as Modest Mouse, the Killers Tom Vek and the Walkmen have) would you?
Yes - only if we styled our selves and one of us died as part of the plot.
And finally...What came first, the music or the misery?
I'm not sure thats a question for Scissor Sisters.
