The Public Theater and WNYC Studios present the world premiere of a stunning new bilingual audio production of William Shakespeare’s ROMEO Y JULIETA. Director Saheem Ali continues his audio exploration of Shakespeare’s canon for The Public Theater, collaborating with playwright Ricardo Pérez González on an adaptation of Alfredo Michel Modenessi’s Spanish translation. Actor Lupita Nyong’o plays Julieta, with Juan Castano as her Romeo, in this bilingual Spanish and English production that will bring history’s most famed lovers to homes and phones. All three episodes of the podcast: the Program Note, the full Audio Play and the “Afterglow” post-production discussion are available now. Listen here.

And tonight, join us for a special live online watch and listening party to celebrate the premiere, from The Greene Space. The event will be hosted by WNYC’s Rebeca Ibarra with a special pre-show cocktail demo and includes actors Lupita Nyong-o and Juan Castano, along with director Saheem Ali. We will listen to the play in full. At intermission, composer Michael Thurber will share music inspired by the play, and the event concludes with a Q&A with the show team.
