Sure Ricky Gervais got a fair amount of flap over how he hosted this year's Golden Globes (though not from us)—but was it enough to get him banned from future hosting? Not according to his rep, who says those rumors are "utter rubbish." And for the record? Gervais' much discussed absence for half the telecast was planned? According to Gervais, "I did every single introduction I was meant to. There just happened to be a long gap."
Also, the gap occurred because Gervais got to choose who he introduced and "obviously chose presenters who [he] had the best jokes for. (And who [he] knew had a good sense of humour). Everyone took it well and the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great." Which would be totally believable if on the other hand we didn't have the head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association— also the butt of a particularly nasty barb about getting off the toilet and popping in your teeth—saying publicly that Ricky "crossed the line."
So will Gervais be back? He's saying probably not but we're going to come up front and say right now we suspect he'll be back. Like Kathy Griffin on CNN's New Year's Eve show—the press surrounding his appearance would just be too good for the spotlight loving HFPA.
