In 1969, LIFE photographer John Dominis spent a week capturing the life of Robert Redford, who was a "Hollywood legend-in-the-making" at the time. Now LIFE.com has released some outtakes from his shoot, which documented the actor in both Utah and New York City. While Redford may be known more for his life in Utah, or even Connecticut, he did spend a good deal of time in the city, with his career starting off here in the 1950s. And did you know Redford studied painting at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn?
This photos were taken a couple of years after Barefoot in the Park was released, and the same year he played The Sundance Kid. Click through for a look.
