Anyone who has ever vied for elbow space on the wall at Brooklyn Boulders knows that for a city of this size, the number of indoor climbing gyms is woefully low. On Saturday, though, the outer boroughs will score a major victory with the opening of The Cliffs, which claims to be the "largest climbing and fitness facility in New York City."
The climbing gym contains a whopping 30,000-square-feet of surface, and there's also a gym gym with cardiovascular machines and exercise equipment. Like all climbing gyms, this one is pricey—a day pass will cost you $25, and memberships are $95 monthly. On the bright side, climbing is excellent for you, and you will get ripped.
During Saturday's grand opening, however, day passes will set you back just $10. Festivities will also include demonstrations from gear vendors, food, free bicycle maintenance, music, slacklining and highlining.
The Cliffs is located at 11-11 44th Drive. It is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
