NYC DEP Names Tunnel Boring Machine After Trailblazing Woman Engineer And Civil Rights Activist

Nora Stanton Blatch Deforest Barney<br>


The tunnel boring machine that DEP will use to build the Delaware Aqueduct bypass tunnel. The machine is 21.6 feet in diameter and roughly 470 feet long when fully assembled. It carries the name "NORA" in honor of Nora Stanton Blatch Deforest Barney.<br>


This employee card from 1906-1908 documented Nora Stanton Blatch's time with the Board of Water Supply. She was a draftsman working on parts of Ashokan Reservoir at the Catskill Aqueduct.<br>
