The annual Drag March through the Village has always been a joyous occasion, but it was kicked up a notch on Friday in the wake of the monumental SCOTUS marriage equality ruling.
Hundreds of people joined the march in Tompkins Square Park, which was led by The Church Ladies for Choice & The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Revelers made their way across to the historic Stonewall Inn, where people had already been celebrating all day. There were people doing fire dances, NYPD escorts, vibrant displays of clothing and makeup, and lots of clapping and cheering. Stonewall was too full to fit everyone inside, leading to a happy spillover with tons of people in the street dancing and hugging.
One of the more popular chants was a playful reaction to the SCOTUS decision: "We don't want to marry, we just want to fuck!"
Oh, and our old friend Vincent Van Gogh was in attendance too!
