The EDM festival Electric Zoo threw a huge opening-day party on Friday on Randalls Island, as they celebrated their 10th year in NYC. Acts included Marshmello, Gramatik, and Zomboy were among the 30-something others dropping beats on five different stages.

Saturday's show is completely sold out, and Sunday, with headliners Tietso and Alesso, will likely follow suit (as of right now there are still a few left). If you're going to the Randalls Island spectacle this weekend, you can expect to see plenty of PLUR (which stands for Peace Love Unity Respect and is associated with rave culture), and thousands of head-bangers.

There are free water stations, beer and wine booths, and lots of food options, including Big Mozz, San Matteo Pizza, and Ube Kitchen. Note that the only way to pay for anything on the festival grounds is with your wristband, which, if you haven't preloaded, you can "Top-Up" with cash or credit card on site.

In 2013, EZoo faced sharp criticism and calls for permanent cancellation after two people died of drug overdoses on the event grounds. The event this weekend, at least so far, seems well-organized, and not even periods of heavy rain yesterday could dampen the mood, though admittedly many people were basically just wearing bathing suits to begin with.
