The rain and cold temperatures couldn't keep crowds away from tonight's balloon inflation for Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade tomorrow. Especially since it's a possibility that the big balloons might not fly!
After a few incidents where errant balloons struck street lamps, which then seriously injured people, the city adopted wind rules for the parade: If winds exceed 23 mph or wind gusts are measured at 34 mph, the huge balloons like Pikachu and Snoopy and Woodstock will be deflated.
In an Instagram, the Mayor's Office said, "16 balloons - including Buzz here - are being inflated tonight ahead of tomorrow's annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. A decision on if it is safe to use the larger balloons will be made tomorrow close to the start of the parade, which kicks off at 9am."
Balloon inflation ends at 10 p.m.
