For many months, it appeared that Hurricane Sandy may have ruined the annual Mermaid Parade at Coney Island, one of the most fun and colorful NYC traditions. But thanks to the efforts of Amanda Palmer and Coney Island USA, the event was saved, and New Yorkers were able to enjoy a beautiful, warm day parading around the boardwalk on Saturday in their weirdest facepaint and costumes.
