This weekend, our dreams of watching outdoor movies at a drive-in movie theater in the five boroughs was realized when the Empire Drive-In kicked off. Empire Drive-In is a large-scale temporary drive-in theater installation built from junked cars and salvaged materials. Above, check out some photos by Tod Seelie of the opening night of the event.
In an evening programmed by programmed by Todd Chandler and Jeff Stark, Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier and 30 pianists (playing old Casio keyboards) performed pieces for a three silent films and Jim Jarmusch’s Night on Earth on Friday. The events (held outside the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park) will run through October 20th (see the full lineup here), and cost $15 a ticket.
